Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged increased economic cooperation with Nigeria, saying the country is important to Africa and the world.
On Wednesday, the Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Peng Qinghua, who acted as the Special Envoy for the Chinese President, met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja and conveyed his message.
Qinghua pointed out that both countries have a good bilateral relationship and economic cooperation, noting that Chinese businesses are doing very well in Nigeria as far as railways, roads, hydropower plants, and free trade zones are concerned.

But the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, while applauding President Tinubu’s plan for a new era of growth and prosperity, pointed out that there are areas in which Nigeria may be benefiting from China. He urged President Tinubu to create a more conducive environment for investment, calling on the two countries to share ideas and strategies. President Tinubu responded, saying that Nigeria was willing to explore business and mutually beneficial partnerships with any country that wished to work with it. He promised that his administration would work to promote the ease of doing business.
According to a statement from one of his media aides, Tunde Rahman, the President said, We need rapid growth, and we are ready to do business honestly with those who are ready to do business with us.” In support of democracy in the West African sub-region, we will continue to work. I am a product of democracy and will work my way to the development of democracy day and night.
“We will fight terrorism and all forms of criminality. We can learn from each other, but we will remain non-aligned.”
The delegation from the Chinese government visited the newly sworn-in Nigerian president, including Cui Jianchun, the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria.
