The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, on Thursday, mentioned 141 terror circumstances, 214 kidnappings, and 537 murder circumstances have been reported to the police within the final eight weeks.
Egbetokun added that 3,685 suspects have been apprehended for his or her participation in numerous crimes, whereas 401 kidnap victims have been rescued.
Egbetokun mentioned this while fielding journalists’ questions about the Nigeria Police Drive Headquarters, Louis Edet Home, Abuja.
He mentioned, “I’m happy to report a considerable development, propelled by the execution of numerous methods to mitigate the escalating development of prison actions throughout the nation after our final convention on February 8, 2024.
“Previously eight weeks, we recorded 141 circumstances of terrorism/secessionist assaults, 537 circumstances of homicide, 126 circumstances of armed theft, 214 circumstances of kidnapping, and 39 circumstances of illegal possession of firearms.
“Additionally, in the course of the interval below evaluation, the Nigeria Police Drive arrested 3,685 suspects for his or her participation in numerous crimes, 401 kidnap victims have been rescued, 216 numerous firearms, 3,601 ammunition and 82 automobiles have been recovered.
“Now, within the final nine months, we have cumulatively offered cheques totalling N7,263,391,051.73 to 2,5143 households of deceased law enforcement officials.”
The IG mentioned the police would proceed to try for excellence by being extra proactive in our policing strategy.
He said, “Our responses to the present inner safety threats require strategic deployments that aren’t only proactive but also expertise and intelligence-driven.
“By meticulously evaluating obtainable information, we will endeavour to preempt prison actions, disrupt their illicit networks, and swiftly apprehend perpetrators. We must stay vigilant and adaptive in our strategy, repeatedly refining our methods to stay ahead of evolving threats.”
