The People’s Democratic Party alleged that, in honor of Nigeria celebrating June 12th as Democracy Day, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) are disrespecting Chief MKO Abiola‘s memory.
The party said the observance of Democracy Day under a system that has breached, defiled, and corrupted every principle of democracy witnessed in flagrant manipulation during the 2023 general election would be derogatory, offensive, and unacceptable to the nation. This was stated in a statement issued by the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) national publicity secretary, Honorable Chidimi Oyehe. On Monday, Debo Ologunagba will be marking Democracy Day.

Ologunagba condemns the APC and INEC’s manipulations of the 2023 elections, calling them an assault on democracy and disrespect for the people’s will, which goes against the values MKO Abiola fought for.
“June 12 symbolizes Nigerians’ fight against corruption, injustice, electoral fraud, and anti-democracy, represented by the current Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) leadership.” “It’s painful that the progress made by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in electoral reform has been erased by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2023. We urge Nigerians to stay hopeful and abide by the law for a better nation.” The PDP urges leaders to follow June 12 principles for the Nigerian people.
