Dangote Refinery starts today with the capacity to process crude oil from Africa, Asia, and America. It will also supply Nigeria with 38 million liters of gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel daily, thus meeting the country’s entire fuel demand. Data from the company showed that the Dangote Refinery could establish 26,716 filling stations, create 100,000 jobs, and provide a $21 billion market for Nigerian crude oil annually. The refinery’s inauguration is scheduled for May 22.
“The world’s largest single-train refinery, Dangote Refinery, is set for inauguration on May 22nd, 2023, by President Buhari, boosting the Federal Government’s efforts to make Nigeria self-sufficient in local refining of crude oil and saving scarce foreign exchange used in petroleum product importation.” The Dangote Petroleum Refinery converts crude oil into various petroleum products like diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, and kerosene. With a capacity of refining 650,000 barrels per day, it spans 2,635 hectares in Lagos.

The refinery makes Euro-V gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and polypropylene. It can process many different crude oils, such as African, Middle Eastern, and US light-tight oil. The refinery can fully meet Nigeria’s liquid product needs, including petrol, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet, and have surplus for export. It complies with strict environmental guidelines and produces eco-friendly petroleum products for global markets. Nigeria’s refinery will produce a daily surplus of 38 million liters of fuel, including 20 million liters of petrol, 1 million liters each of kerosene and JetA1, and 16 million liters of diesel. The refinery dispatches up to 80% of its products by road and 75% by marine facilities. There are 177 tank farms with a total capacity of 4 for year-round road loading. The firm stated a total tanker loading of 2,900, based on a tanker capacity of 33 KL, amounting to 74 billion liters.
The Dangote Refinery project includes various aspects such as engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, and storage facilities. It is situated in the Dangote Industries Free Zone Area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. Unlike most companies, Dangote is directly completing the petroleum refinery and petrochemical complex as an engineering, procurement, and construction contractor.
