The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) announced its intention to install meters for up to 600,000 customers within the next five years, aiming to address the metering gap by 2028.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, EKEDC plans to meter 120,000 customers annually over the next five years, with a district-wise approach outlining the installation of both single-phase and three-phase meters.
EKEDC recently inaugurated a modern 2 X 20 MVA Randle Injection Substation in the Surulere area, adding approximately 30 megawatts of power capacity to the region and relieving pressure on existing substations, thereby minimizing the need for load-shedding.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to completing such projects to satisfy its customers, particularly in rapidly expanding areas like the Lekki-Epe corridors. Despite challenges, including limited power allocation from the grid, EKEDC is exploring innovative solutions such as partnerships with independent power producers.
Notable among these initiatives is a 30MW gas-fired embedded power generation project in Victoria Island, Lagos, established through collaboration with Elektron Energy in 2023 to enhance power supply reliability in the area.
EKEDC also outlined several ongoing projects aimed at boosting power supply capacity, including feeder construction, transformer upgrades, and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure.
Dr. Dere Otubu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EKEDC, assured the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, of improvements in power supply across the EKEDC network.
