The Association of Skilled Ladies Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Lagos Chapter, has lamented that female engineers are abandoning their careers.
Prof. Oluwatoyin Ashiru, the keynote speaker at the Worldwide Ladies’ Day Public Lecture, which was themed ‘Empowering Ladies by means of Financial Inclusion for an Equitable Future,’ expressed this concern in Lagos State not too long ago.
The don stated, “We’re dropping feminine engineers into different sectors; they go first to auditing companies, then transfer to banks, and they’re doing nicely? Once you see them in banks and also ask what they studied, you hear chemical engineering.
“On empowering ladies engineers, authorities insurance policies and organisational initiatives play a vital position in selling gender variety in engineering. Scholarships for ladies in engineering, funding for women-led analysis, and advocacy for gender parity in engineering are important steps.”
Ashiru asserted that empowering ladies for inclusion in engineering was not nearly attaining gender stability.
He added, “It’s about leveraging various views to foster innovation and creativity in fixing among the world’s most complicated issues. A collaborative effort from academic establishments and firms, ladies should study to be celebrated. One of many issues I did when my daughters were rising was to have a good time with them, giving them a way of delight. As well as at all times, publicise success tales.”

Talking on the launch of a Useful resource, Expertise & Innovation Hub to empower feminine engineering college students on the occasion, which coincided with the inauguration of the tenth Chairman of APWEN Lagos, Dr Atinuke Owolabi, the newly elected chairman stated the first goal of the mission was to create a collaborative ecosystem the place feminine engineering college students.
She stated, “The first goal of the Useful resource, Expertise & Innovation Hub is to create a collaborative ecosystem the place feminine Engineering college students (with 10 per cent of our boys), younger Engineers {and professional} ladies engineers can enter sources, trade information, and develop progressive options to handle societal challenges.”
The President of APWEN, Dr Adebisi Osim, is known for including women’s contributions within the nation.
