Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has alleged that some former governors in the North-West have jeopardised the security partnership of the region by collaborating with bandits and terrorists.
The region includes Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, Sani criticised some governors for mishandling internal affairs and worsening security problems.
“I remember how the Kaduna State government and neighbouring states worked together to tackle insecurity through a joint committee, funding and close partnership with security agencies.” “Unfortunately, this alliance broke down when some governors started fraternising with bandits and terrorists – compensating them, negotiating with them and going out to eat and drink with them.”

The governor claimed that this method was regressive and had led to a rift in the coalition. He was of the view that the instability in the region required quick action by neighbouring governors.
“Recently, I invited the governors of the North-West to the Kaduna State Liaison Office in Abuja. We discussed a policy framework to tackle insecurity, irrespective of party affiliation “We agreed that we need a unified strategy and avoid the mistakes of the past when we compromised operations by negotiating and offering money to bandits.” He said the North West governors want to address the problem and will sit down with Niger State Governor Umar Bago as they have a similar problem. They also plan to meet with President Bola Tinubu. “He has agreed that I will bring the governors of the zone to meet with him to discuss the insecurity. We need to work together with a common agenda, a common plan and a common action.” That is the only solution.
