A clash of perspectives has emerged between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the efficacy of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration in Ekiti State. The PDP State Secretary and former Commissioner for Works, Mrs. Funmi Ogun, who harbors gubernatorial ambitions for 2026 under the PDP, criticized the APC-led government, asserting that it has failed to demonstrate tangible progress despite the state’s resources.
In contrast, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, countered Ogun’s claims, stating that Ekiti residents, benefiting from the administration’s initiatives and gestures, are better positioned to assess its performance rather than the opposition party. Ogun, through her Special Adviser on Media, Olayinka Atenibiaje, expressed discontent with the ongoing flyover bridge project, considering it a misplaced priority amidst economic challenges.
Ogun remarked, “The funds allocated to compensation for demolished buildings and the flyover project could significantly improve our road infrastructure and alleviate economic hardships if directed towards development initiatives.”
In response, Dipe highlighted the tangible benefits Ekiti citizens are experiencing under Oyebanji’s governance, emphasizing infrastructural developments, welfare programs, timely salary payments, and enhanced overall satisfaction compared to the PDP’s tenure.
He emphasized, “The PDP lacks a track record of fiscal prudence and responsiveness to Ekiti’s needs. While they criticize, Ekiti residents acknowledge and appreciate Governor Oyebanji’s efforts, evident in the positive impact on their lives.”
As the political discourse unfolds, contrasting narratives underscore the ongoing debate over Governor Oyebanji’s performance and its perceived impact on Ekiti State’s populace.
