President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urges Nigerians to stay firm as his decision on subsidy removal aims to save Nigeria from collapsing. He made this statement during a nationwide broadcast on Monday in Abuja to mark the country’s 2023 Democracy Day. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu acknowledged that removing the fuel subsidy would increase Nigerians’ suffering, burden, and woes but pledged to invest the money saved from the fuel subsidy in various areas such as transportation, healthcare, infrastructure, and education.

The president promised to adopt the philosophies of Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, GCFR, which prioritize the well-being of the people and personal fulfillment. He also announced the removal of fuel subsidies to utilize the resources for the public good. “I recognize the decision will burden our people and empathize with your pain.” We must make the decision to save our country and resources from unpatriotic individuals. I urge my compatriots to sacrifice for our survival. We’ll repay you with investments in transportation, education, power, healthcare, and other utilities to enhance your quality of life.
