President Bola Tinubu has ordered a 60% reduction in the travel expenses of all government officials, including himself, the Vice President, the First Lady, and the ministers. The presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, announced this on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Ngelale said the directive was part of the cost-cutting measures of the Presidency, which aimed to save public funds and ensure fiscal discipline. He said the directive was not a request, but a mandatory order that must be complied with by all government functionaries.
According to Ngelale, the directive means that the President will be limited to 20 staff members for any foreign trip, while the Vice President, the First Lady, and the ministers will be limited to five staff members each. He said the same rule applies to domestic trips, where the number of staff will be reduced by 60%.
Ngelale also said that the President has decided to travel with less security personnel to any state in the country and rely on the security arrangements of the host state. He said the same applies to the Vice President and other top government officials.
