Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has made a significant announcement regarding his political future. Despite failing to secure victory in the 2023 election, he declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election. This announcement came during a press conference following the Supreme Court’s judgment on his appeal against the verdict of the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) on October 26, 2023.
Obi expressed his gratitude to Nigerians for their support during the last election, emphasizing their belief in the need for dedicated and visionary leaders to lead Nigeria towards a brighter future. He acknowledged the energy and dedication of Nigerian youths and the Obedient Movement.
While acknowledging the legal issues surrounding the election, Obi criticized the Supreme Court’s decision, pointing out election irregularities and breaches of the Constitution. He emphasized the need for a new Nigeria where resources are managed prudently, poverty is reduced, and opportunities are distributed transparently.
Obi also highlighted the importance of a strong political opposition and expressed his commitment to the values of character, competence, capacity, compassion, integrity, and respect for the rule of law.
Peter Obi’s declaration to contest the 2027 presidential election signals his determination to continue working towards a better Nigeria, despite the challenges faced in 2023.
