A human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has urged the Federal Authorities to make sure the killers of 16 Nigerian Military personnel who have been on a peace mission to the Okuama group within the Ughelli South Native Authorities Space of Delta State face justice.
A commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain, 12 troopers, and one civilian misplaced their lives in the ambush on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
The corpses of the deceased have been stated to have been hidden by the assailants.
Some Okuama youths on Wednesday reportedly ambushed one Mr Anthony Aboh, an indigene of Okoloba, and held him hostage.

The neighbouring communities have been engaged in a communal land dispute since January 27, 2024, when some youths from Okoloba have been stated to have ambushed and killed three Okuama youths, Igho Meshack, Godspower Awusa, and Okiemute Agbabuleke, over an age-long land dispute within the space as they have been coming back from Okwagbe.
However, reacting to the event in an announcement on Sunday, Adeyanju described the ambush and killing of the troopers as a “dastardly act.”
He stated, “I came on the authorities to go away, and no stone was unturned in making certain these answerables for this cowardly act are dropped at justice.
“It’s with a heavy coronary heart and deep sorrow that I prolong my heartfelt condolences to the households of troopers killed in Delta State. The information about the tragic incident that claimed the lives of the Commanding Officer, two majors, one captain, and 12 troopers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion has left me in shock, disbelief and mourning.
“These courageous women and men who defend us daily have been on a noble peace mission, selflessly dedicating themselves to the service of our nation and striving to deliver stability and concord to our nation and the Okuoma group in Bomadi Native Authorities Space of Delta State.
“Might the souls of our fallen heroes discover everlasting peace and relaxation. Their braveness, dedication, and selflessness will eternally be etched in our hearts and minds. We’ll eternally be pleased about their service and sacrifice.”
