Deputy Governor Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta condemned the looting of warehouses in Yola, Adamawa State, by hoodlums.
The incident involved hundreds of residents breaking into public and private warehouses and stealing grains and commodities. Farauta acknowledged the government’s awareness of the people’s suffering but criticised the looting.
The government acknowledges the hunger and suffering of the people but condemns the looting. It plans to use funds to repair destroyed stores and warehouses and encourages youth to channel their energies towards positive things.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state after Sunday’s looting, citing the dangerous nature of hoodlum activities. Only those with valid identification can move during the curfew period.
The deputy governor announced an hourly review of the curfew, with a total review by early Monday. The situation will be reviewed with information from 21 local government areas and the state capital.
The deputy governor acknowledged that farmers, who are agrarians, cannot stay indoors for extended periods due to the rainy season.
