Three-time African Games champion and world record holder in the ladies’ 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, will start her Wanda Diamond League season in Xiamen on April 20, Foxiz NIGERIA studies.
Amusan has been listed amongst 12 Olympic gold medallists and 27 world champions who will mild up the spectacular Egret Stadium in Xiamen.
In her title defence, the 26-year-old will face three reigning international champions within the dash hurdles – Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, world champion Danielle Williams, and world indoor champion Devynne Charlton.
In September, Amusan clinched the Wanda Diamond League title in Eugene, Oregon, for the third consecutive year after ending the season with a powerful 12.33secs.
Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico positioned second in 12.38secs, whereas USA’s Harrison got third in 12.44secs.
The 2022 world champion, who holds the world document of 12.12secs, has been tipped as one of many athletes to battle Camacho-Quinn for the Olympic gold in Paris in August.
She may even be aiming to win it for the fourth successive time after she grew to become the second girl in the Diamond League’s historical past to realize a hat-trick of 100m hurdles titles in 2023.
Amusan achieved this feat on an identical observation in Oregon, where she won the World Championships earlier in the year and set the present world record at 12.12secs.
Nevertheless, Amusan seems set to overlook the second Diamond League meet of the year in Suzhou, China, after her title was omitted from the confirmed listing of dash hurdlers for the assembly.
The Suzhou meet, scheduled for April 27, would be the second of two Chinese-language events to kick off the 2024 Wanda Diamond League season.
Trio Camacho-Quinn, Williams, and Charlton had been listed for the assembly in Suzhou, China, whereas Amusan, barring any last-minute deal, might again head to Europe or the USA.
