The Anambra State Police Command mentioned it intercepted a kidnap gang on Friday and rescued 4 males already kidnapped by the “dare-devil kidnappers.”
The state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a press assertion on Saturday, including that the abductors have been taking the victims to an unknown vacation spot earlier than they have been intercepted.
Ikenga mentioned the police operatives, whereas on patrol with the native vigilantes, intercepted the abductors alongside the Amagu-Awgbu Street in Orumba North Native Authorities Space as they have been heading in the direction of an exit route from the state.
He mentioned, “The gang, which opened fireplace sporadically on sighting the patrol staff, bowed to police-vigilante superior firepower. Two of the three automobiles the gang operated with have been demobilised.
“Whereas a remnant of the gang escaped within the third car, different gangsters fled into the bush on foot with bullet wounds. One pump motion gun was recovered in the course of the encounter.
“Additionally recovered have been two SUVs – one 2017 version of Toyota Highlander with registration quantity Abuja GWA 141 KZ and one Mercedes Benz GLK 350 4Matic with registration quantity Anambra AGU 242 NQ.
“Preliminary inquiry revealed that the quantity plates on the Mercedes Benz SUV have been issued to a Toyota Sienna Spacewagon car.”
The spokesperson added that “4 kidnapped victims have been rescued unharmed from the gang. Preliminary debriefing to establish circumstances of their abduction are ongoing.”
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, who described the rescue of the victims as “heroic,” has counseled the efficient collaboration between the police and vigilantes throughout the state.
He emphasised that when the safety of the citizenry is the main target, the police will work seamlessly with all related stakeholders to eradicate each risk that could be confronting the folks.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit in Awkuzu. He has mandated the unit to deploy its experience in monitoring down gang members who escaped the onslaught at Awgbu and produce them to justice,” Ikenga added.
