In a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Friday, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammed Saad Abubakar III, told him that royal fathers don’t envy his leadership at this time when there are many challenges in the country.
He said so when the President paid a visit to royal fathers in six geopolitical regions, which are governed by the National Council of Traditional Rulers, at the State House banquet room in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
He also informed them that the government had decided to abolish fuel subsidies, improve safety, generate employment, preserve the environment, and elect new chief executives for the 10th National Assembly. ‘We’re all ears.’ At any given moment, we’re ready to listen. I’ll give you an Open Door Policy and that’s what I’m going to do,” Tinubu said.

This open-door policy is about you calling and telling me at any time what kind of trouble you’re having. We may not be perfect, but in this country, we need to keep it accurate 90 per cent of the time.’ The Sultan of Sokoto, who led his group on the trip, nevertheless assured the President that royal fathers had their support and loyalty as long as they were needed.
In addition, the royal fathers had high confidence in the Tinubu-led government and its ‘Renewed Hope’ mantra, which they felt would guide this country to progress. The Ooni of Ife urged President Tinubu to involve traditional rulers in addressing insecurity.
