Arik Air has clarified that the incident that resulted in stranded passengers at Port Harcourt Airport on April 2 was caused by opposing climate situations.
The airline made this disclosure in an announcement on Thursday, signed by its Public Relations Supervisor, Adebanji Ola.
Latest viral movies have surfaced, displaying Arik Air passengers expressing frustration over being stranded at Port Harcourt Airport after their flight to Lagos was abruptly cancelled.
The affected passengers, scheduled for a flight from Port Harcourt in Rivers State to Lagos State, took to social media platforms to share their grievances.
Nonetheless, the airline reiterated its dedication to security, highlighting its strict coverage to avoid flying in inclement climate situations, necessitating the flight’s cancellation.

It prolonged its apologies to prospects whose journey plans had been disrupted by the unexpected circumstances, reaffirming its dedication to prioritising passenger welfare.
A part of the assertion reads, “We’re conscious of a latest video or story circulated by Sahara Reporters alleging that passengers had been left stranded at Port Harcourt Airport below our care. We must offer readability on this matter to rectify any misconceptions.
“Within the night of Tuesday, April 2, 2024, our flight W3 744 Lagos-Port Harcourt was compelled to make an air return because of opposed climate situations, hefty rainfall and thunderstorms in Port Harcourt. Consequently, the Lagos-Port Harcourt (W3 744) and Port Harcourt-Lagos (W3 745) flights needed to be cancelled.
“It’s essential to notice that by the time the cancellation was made, our banking services at the airport had ceased operations, rendering funds unfeasible at that moment. Nonetheless, the passengers were promptly briefed on the scenario and suggested they return the next day for re-protection on accessible flights.”
It added that on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, all affected passengers from Lagos and Port Harcourt were efficiently accommodated on accessible morning and night flights.
“Contrary to the Sahara Reporters’ declaration, no single passenger was stranded at Port Harcourt Airport. The video footage in query possibly captured a second of agitation amongst some passengers,” it said.
