Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has warned native authorities chairmen within the state against indulging in monetary misappropriation because the Financial and Monetary Crimes Fee will punish them.
The governor additionally warned the chairmen in opposition to leaving their council space.
Alia gave warnings on Monday, declaring the opening of a two-day workshop on ‘Responsive Native Authorities Management for Efficient Native Authorities Administration in Benue State.
Admonishing the council chairmen to imbibe accountability, integrity, and transparency in the discharge of their obligations, the governor stated that they must not take the Inner Generated Income or taxes as private funds but attempt to extend their IGR to enhance the welfare of their individuals.

He reminded the council chairmen of their social contract with the individuals and charged them with observing their pursuits and knowing what they wished.
He stated, “You should embark on human improvement, intention excessive, and let the individuals know that the system is working.
“Don’t let anybody take you without warning, as you may have a giant brother, EFCC, who’s always beaming a searchlight on you.
“The Goal of our administration is to allow us vested with this accountability to know our social contract with the individuals, the depth of service to the individuals, and the good things about democracy.
“The theme speaks to reality, that is, the strategy of service supply and administration of the third tier of presidency. It’s meant to equip you to know your roles.
The native governments are strategically positioned to contribute to administrative processes, which must be in tandem with our targets.
“See the challenges you’re confronted with and proffer answers. See how one can make an imprint within the LG system. You must make the state, stakeholders, and everybody concerned within the state happy with you. We have now given autonomy to the LG system and plan to open the agricultural areas to thrive. We have now mapped out strategic tasks awaiting execution in our LG areas.

The Particular Adviser, Native Authorities and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dennis Akura, defined that the workshop was designed not solely to familiarise directors with the intricacies of governance but to equip them with the managerial abilities needed for the excellence of their roles.
