At the conclusion of the annual G20 summit in New Delhi this weekend, India formally handed over the Presidency to Brazil.
The transition was completed when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the ceremonial gavel of the president to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
India has held the G20 presidency since December 1, when it took over from Indonesia, and will continue to do so until November 30.
The bloc adopted a consensus declaration during the two-day meeting, making pledges on a variety of topics, including food and energy security, climate change, and global debt concerns.
Modi also proposed a “virtual summit” of the grouping at the end of November to examine the state of the members’ recommendations and initiatives and determine “how their progress can be accelerated.”
“In that session, we can review the topics decided during this summit,” Modi said, adding that members would be informed. (Reuters/NAN)
