British Council, in collaboration with Prince’s Trust International, has awarded grants to eight Nigerian entrepreneurs, marking a significant milestone in fostering entrepreneurship and economic development in the country.
The entrepreneurs received N250,000 each as part of the ‘Sustainable Entrepreneurship Challenge Programme,’ an initiative aimed at nurturing innovative business ideas and solutions among young Nigerians.
Following a rigorous selection process, which involved competing against 16 other entrepreneurs from a pool of 60 candidates, these entrepreneurs emerged victorious. They showcased their business concepts to a panel of five judges, demonstrating creativity, social impact, profitability, and environmental sustainability.
The winners were divided into two cohorts, each comprising enterprises recognized for their innovation, societal impact, profitability, and environmental friendliness. Notable among them are Blue Sands Stem Labs, Mee Best Foods, Hems to Fit, Ecodey Management Resources, Eco Feet, Suss Flow, Cattle Technology, and Buy Scrap Nigeria.
Lucy Pearson, British Council’s Country Director, expressed her enthusiasm for the entrepreneurship challenge, highlighting its significance in demonstrating the organization’s commitment to nurturing the talents of young Nigerians. She emphasized the pivotal role of initiatives like these in driving economic growth and development, particularly through arts, culture, education, and language programs.
Pearson underscored the importance of empowering young people through local initiatives and skills development, citing them as catalysts for transformative change in Nigeria’s economic landscape.
Acknowledging the partnership with Prince’s Trust International, Pearson commended their collaborative efforts in designing and implementing the project, further enhancing its impact and reach.
