On Monday, during the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) annual convention, Israel’s delegation achieved a significant feat by halting two proposals that condemned Israel’s actions in the conflict against Hamas and called for an immediate ceasefire. A Monday press release from Likud MK Danny Danon’s office highlighted this accomplishment.
The Israeli delegation’s success followed a heated confrontation between Danon and the South African representative, during which both parties engaged in a verbal altercation.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), encompassing 179 parliaments worldwide, including the Israeli Knesset, is recognized as the largest inter-parliamentary organization. Recently, an anti-Israel coalition has emerged within the IPU, comprising nations that condemn Israel’s actions in the conflict against Hamas in Gaza.
Two proposals for a direct ceasefire
South Africa, alongside Arab nations, has actively participated in this coalition, presenting a proposal during the convention to halt Israel’s conflict against Hamas immediately. During her address, the South African representative accused Israel of committing crimes against humanity and intentionally creating a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Additionally, Indonesia and Malaysia also submitted a ceasefire proposal during the convention.
