A devastating incident unfolded in Chicago’s southwest side as a police officer was fatally shot while heading home from duty early Sunday morning, as confirmed by the city’s police department.
The officer, identified as 30-year-old Luis Huesca, was named by Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office. According to Police Superintendent Larry Snelling, Huesca was driving home around 3 a.m. on Sunday when he was attacked and shot multiple times.
While Huesca was still in uniform, his attire was concealed by other clothing, which Snelling explained is customary for off-duty officers. Despite efforts to save him, the wounded officer succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a Chicago hospital.
As of Sunday evening, no suspects have been apprehended, and authorities have yet to determine a motive for the shooting.
