Defense counsel Thulani Mngomezulu has leveled accusations suggesting that Longwe Twala, who was not present in court, was responsible for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.
Mngomezulu, representing accused Muzi Sibiya, conducted cross-examination of investigating officer Sergeant Batho Mogola at the High Court in Pretoria.
Currently, five men are standing trial for the murder of the Bafana Bafana captain, who was fatally shot in 2014.
According to Mngomezulu, Twala, who was present at the Khumalo residence on the night of the incident, allegedly fired the fatal shot.
Mngomezulu asserted, “This is the defense’s assertion, not the prosecution’s. I will summon that witness. The individual responsible for Senzo Meyiwa’s death is not present in this courtroom.”
In response, Mogola countered, “The individuals responsible for Senzo Meyiwa’s death are present in this courtroom. Senzo was shot, according to the evidence I possess. Senzo was shot while attempting to separate Longwe and Zandi, who were engaged in a physical altercation.”
