Human rights lawyers filed a contempt action against Department of State Services Director General Yusuf Bichi.
Legal practitioners, led by Maxwell Opara and Ahmed Tijani, filed Form 48 and Form 49 with the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. They accused the DSS boss of disobeying court judgements regarding Emefiele’s arrest and detention, claiming they breached a court order restraining the agency from arresting or interrogating him for terrorism financing, money laundering, round-tripping, and national security crimes.
The group alleged that the DSS proceeded to arrest and detain Emefiele for over a month while searching for evidence. The group plans to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion to ensure public offices are not used for personal vendettas.
The lawyer argues that Emefiele’s troubles are primarily political. He was suspended as CBN governor by President Tinubu and is currently in custody. He is accused of unlawfully possessing a single-barrel shotgun and 123 rounds of live ammunition without a licence.
According to the security agency, the items were recovered during a search of Emefiele’s residence located at No. 3B Iru Close in Ikoyi, Lagos, and this information was presented to the court.
