The Edo State House of Assembly has distanced itself from the alleged impeachment of Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, according to Speaker Blessing Agbebaku.
Agbebaku, who is the presiding officer of the assembly, stated that the governor had never raised the issue with the house and that the assembly had never contemplated removing the deputy governor.
He described the allegation as a “rumour from the pit of hell” and took the matter to Governor Godwin Obaseki, who asked about the purpose of the impeachment and what the deputy governor had done.
Agbebaku also called the deputy governor to disassociate himself from the rumours, stating that the governor has no such plan.
The governor, however, stated that the impeachment saga is the least of his concerns at the moment, stating that there are pressing issues to address in the state.
