The planned arraignment of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, on allegations of procurement law violations and contract inflation has been postponed indefinitely, according to strong indications.
The arraignment on a 20-count charge scheduled on Wednesday by a Federal Capital Territory High Court was not listed on the cause list.
According to DAILY POST, learned in court that the arraignment was rescheduled at the request of the imprisoned CBN Chief.
According to reliable sources, Emefiele and his co-accused, Saadat Yaro, have decided to settle with the Federal Government through a plea bargain.
Kehinde Akinlolu, Emefiele’s lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, verified the change in the arraignment.
He predicted that the Chief Judge, Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf, will declare a new date.
At the time of writing, operatives from the Department of State Services, DSS, who used to accompany him to court, as well as his legal team, were not there.
Meanwhile, the court has begun hearings on other cases on the docket.
