At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Senator George Akume as the new Minister of Government of the Federation (SGF).
Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, some governors and former governors, including Nasarawa State Governor, Tank Almakura, and former Secretary General, Chief Mustapha, were present at the brief event today, Wednesday. Other guests included Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan and the wife of the new Secretary General, Mrs Regina Akume.

Bola Tinubu, had earlier announced his appointment as the new Permanent Secretary of the Federation. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, were appointed by the President as Deputy Chiefs of Staff. Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information at State House, issued a statement announcing the appointment.
According to the statement, the appointment was announced by the President in the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, during a meeting with the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF). Under former President Muhammadu Buhari, Akume was the immediate past Minister of Special Duties.
