The Governor of Benue, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, ordered the removal of illegal roadblocks in various locations in the state during a Thanksgiving service.
Winifred’s Parish Ihugh says roadblocks are security threats and encourage illegal activities in the state. Youths view roadblocks as profitable, contributing to insecurity. Removing it will reveal the wrongdoers causing discord; we don’t want them pretending to be operating legally. The governor urges immediate compliance with the new directives for relevant organizations in the state.
Remove illegal roadblocks for the free movement of people and goods. The directives ensure smooth business operations and the free movement of goods and people. Police are prohibited from setting up roadblocks, as it goes against the law. “The Taxes and Levies Act of Nigeria prohibits any person, including tax authorities, from setting up roadblocks for tax or levy collection, as stated in Section 2(2).”

The governor urged residents to unite against tree cutting to reduce the effects of global warming and promote appreciation of nature. Urgent global efforts are needed to save the environment and prevent self-destruction caused by man’s greedy exploitation and disconnection from nature, leading to the destabilization of eco-balance and a great threat to life. “Remediation and raising awareness for environmental sustainability are crucial to preventing self-destruction and ensuring the continuity of life on earth,” he stated.
He believes man and nature should reconnect for a healthier earth and economic benefits from trees. The state’s people need education to escape poverty. “Economic trees sustain families, empower youth, and cover upkeep costs. Alia thanks the Benue community for support and encouragement, urging them to remain hopeful.”
