The cult group responsible for the killing and the motive behind the murder remain unknown. Concerns about worshippers’ safety in religious places persist among community members. The incident has caused resident outrage, as they demand a thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice. A resident stated, “The deceased was shot after leaving the church on Sunday.” This sparked community panic, and we’re urging the authorities.
Mrs. Osareniye said gunmen ambushed Ehinoma in the church compound and murdered him right after the 11 a.m. service. The pastor announced a meeting for the men and women in the church. My husband left and went outside. I asked my daughter to follow him and get something for me. I heard a gunshot, and my daughter and husband hurried back inside the church. Soon, many boys surrounded our car. More than ten people fled inside the church in fear for their lives. The shooting was out of control, and even church members were hit by stray bullets. Mrs. Osareniye said her husband was shot and attacked with a machete in front of the church.
The gunmen not only killed him, but they also took his phone and ATM before fleeing. Three days before her husband’s death, Osareniye shared that he saw a text on his phone stating that he, along with two others, were targeted for death by the end of the year.
