They also found 250 packets of black cartridges (12 calibre, 10 packets per packet), amounting to 2,500 cartridges. The vigilante troops quickly caught the suspects involved in smuggling. They were identified as Mr. Eric Seworvor, a Ghanaian, and driver Lukman Sani. Both suspects are in custody and cooperating with ongoing investigations.
Initial inquiries found that the hidden ammunition was discretely concealed inside the seemingly empty truck. The illegal cargo had been smuggled into the country from Mali through the Idiroko International Border.
The criminals evaded multiple checkpoints and intended to deliver illegal ammunition to Onitsha, Anambra State. Thankfully, vigilant troops prevented the potential chaos caused by such a large volume of ammunition. The Nigerian Army seeks citizens’ support for security challenges. Major General Lagbaja praised the troops for their steadfast dedication.
