President Bola Tinubu’s 47 cabinet picks, including seven former governors, two of whom lost their re-election bids, raised concerns for the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).
The list included one-term governors Gboyega Oyetola (Osun) and Bello Matawalle (Zamfara), as well as two-term governors Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), and Nyesom Wike (Rivers).
IPAC National Chairman Yabagi Sani criticised Tinubu’s choices, especially considering his efforts for Nigeria’s democracy in the 1990s. “How can you implement anti-people policies and appoint individuals who were rejected by the people?” he questioned.
How can we reinstate them and make them leaders again? This is not the direction we want to take. We must restore trust in Nigerians. He said no Nigerian would be impressed by the President’s ministerial list. “I’m awfully disappointed because Mr President, Tinubu, is behaving differently from my expectations,” he said.
