The Federal Government has applied to withdraw the “illegal possession of firearms” case against suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mohammed Abubakar, stated that the application followed the result of further investigations.
However, Emefiele’s counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Joseph Daudu, opposed the application, insisting that the government must purge itself of disobedience.
Justice Oweibo has adjourned the application until August 17, 2023. A fresh 20 counts have been filed against the suspended governor, one of which accuses him of “conferring unlawful advantages.”
