Kaduna State Police authorities have refuted reports of a mass abduction along the Kaduna-Abuja highway by suspected bandits.
The Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesman, Mansir Hassan, clarified that there was a significant gunfight between security forces and bandits attempting to cross the highway at Dogon Fili area towards Jere axis on January 6th. During the clash, some bandits escaped with gunshot injuries.
Hassan stated that six individuals traveling on the highway sustained injuries during the exchange and were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention. Contrary to media reports, he affirmed that no one was kidnapped by the bandits. The injured victims were identified as Jibrin Tasiu, Jummai Abubakar, Zafira Abubakar, Abdulkarim Nurudeen, Lance Corporal Chinedu Moneke, and Ayo James.
The police spokesman assured that the Kaduna-Abuja highway has been reinforced for the safety of commuters. Kaduna, along with other states in northwestern and central Nigeria, has been grappling with criminal activities perpetrated by groups commonly referred to as bandits, impacting local communities through raids, abductions, and property destruction.
