The official unveiling of the Super Eagles’ new kits by Nike on Monday sparked diverse reactions from Nigerians on social media platforms.
Nike shared a video unveiling the Eagles’ jerseys, putting an end to earlier speculations following leaked designs.
For their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, the Eagles will don the new jerseys, with the three-time African champions opting for white as their home kits for the first time. Traditionally, the green jersey serves as their away kit.
The new home jersey features green-white-green tape on the sleeves and shorts, with a subtle eagle design on the front. Notably, the absence of the Eagles’ logo from the shirts, which only appeared on the shorts, raised eyebrows among fans. Nike’s logo in pink, departing from the usual Eagles color scheme, also garnered attention.
Criticism centered on the “Naija” inscription on the shirts, with some fans expressing disappointment and advocating for “Nigeria” to be featured instead. Concerns were also raised about the prominence of white in the design, deviating from the national colors, and the unexpected introduction of pink.
Various comments on social media reflected dissatisfaction with the design, with some users suggesting a redesign before mass production.
Despite the anticipation surrounding the unveiling, the new kits have sparked debate among fans, highlighting the significance of national identity in sports attire design.
