The Labour Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) suspends Lamidi Apapa and five others for anti-party activities, including Samuel Akingbade National Legal Adviser, Rawland Daramola- National Financial Secretary, Mohammed Akali, National Vice – Chairman, North-East, Alh. Saleh Lawal – Deputy National Secretary; and Prince Reuben Favour-National Vice-Chairman.
The NEC upheld the Akure convention’s decision to expel Comrade Arabambi Abayomi and confirmed the takeover of the party’s affairs by Lamidi Apapa and five others on April 6, 2023. This was due to a Federal High Court ruling restraining Julius Abure and three others from being chairman of the party. Lamidi Apapa took over the party, but was suspended by the NEC in Asaba.
The NEC meeting had attendees from the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi; National Working Committee, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) State Chairmen, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Labour party Secretaries.
This outcome is coming after heavy critism from loyal members of the party as they decry the suspended Lamidi Apapa for allegedly working against party’s presidential candidate during February election and being a mole planted by opposition party to cause chaos and withdraw the ongoing presidential court case between the party’s presidential candidate and the All Progressive Party.
