The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for a commendation for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for its recent untainted activities and the pardon of Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme, the girl involved in the highest scorer debacle.
The association praised the Board’s progress in the admission process and urged a pardon for Ejikeme, stating that there are no short corners to the pinnacle. The NANS also called for the Board to temper justice with mercy, stating that removing Ejikeme would destroy her brilliance and should not be put at risk.
Undoubtedly, the individual in question has learned valuable lessons from their past mistakes. Society must not deprive young individual of their dreams and opportunities. They urge leadership to review the decision banning her from taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and exempting her from admission to any institution. The Board should review its judgement and urge the student society to desist from corruption. They urge the Board to bring individuals involved in such acts to justice.
Emeritus Prof. Peter Okebukola warns against potential UTME cheats, stating that JAMB has taken steps to prevent cheating. He criticised Mmesoma’s incident, which showed JAMB’s thoroughness in promoting examination integrity. Mmesoma claimed to have scored 362 in the 2023 UTME, but JAMB accused her of fake results and manipulation.
