Chef Hilda Baci broke the Guinness World Record for longest cooking time by an individual, surpassing the previous record set in 2019 by cooking for 91 hours and 21 minutes on Monday. The previous record was 87 hours and 45 minutes, set by an Indian chef, Lata Tondon.
Chef Hilda began her four-day cooking marathon on May 11 at Amore Gardens. The 27-year-old cooked for 96 hours to extend the record, her goal is to share positive stories from Africa through her meals. She began her cook-a-thon journey five years ago and sees it as a major aspiration. It’s my biggest aspiration, and I’m proud to take on this challenge after mentally preparing. The cook-a-thon showcases positive stories from Africa and demonstrates the power of youth with the proper backing. “I’m excited to receive worldwide support to accomplish this goal,” she said.

She’s attracting plenty of attention in Nigeria for her bid to make history, with lots of social media and on-site support at the cook-a-thon venue, Amore Gardens in Lagos State. Congratulations are already rolling in for the chef. Prominent figures, such as President-Elect Bola Tinubu, former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governor Peter Obi, and Governors Sanwo-Olu and Abiodun, have backed Chef Hilda and commended her strength. Sanwo-Olu also visited her at Amore Gardens to boost her spirits.

He admired her talent, passion, and persistence in turning her cooking skills into a successful career. The President acknowledges the restaurateur’s success in the Jollof Face-off Competition 2021, where she earned the top prize and resolved the jollof rice rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana. He commends her for promoting Nigerian food culture and inspiring young people to follow suit.
