President Buhari has commissioned the new Nigeria Customs Service Head Quarter in Abuja. The ceremony followed his inauguration of the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
The Smart Corporate Headquarters costs N19.6 billion, says the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, Adeniyi, Chair of the Committee for Commissioning, described the 12-story building with five floors on each wing and connecting “bridges”.
The report gathered by our correspondent revealed that the chairman stated that construction of the building started in 2007 when it was necessary to construct an appropriate structure for the service. In addition, he pointed out that the building had to be built because of a need for more space due to the capacity of the service. According to Adeniyi, the building is ready for commissioning after undergoing refurbishment and renovation.

The chairman stated that local firms were responsible for the design and construction of the building, which is around 25,000 square meters in size. He stated that the height of the building above ground was about forty meters, making it one of the highest buildings in Abuja’s Maitamin Business District. Adeniyi said that modern, up-to-date electrical and mechanical service installations would be put into place for the building.
The deputy comptroller-general of customs said the service was proud to state that “such an architectural masterpiece is cost-efficient.” Adeniyi stated that there were challenges with respect to the construction of this building, which ranged from changes and adaptations in its model.
The premises of the corporate office, which is called “Customs House,” are situated in Maitanma, one of Abuja’s highbrow areas. In 2002, the project was designed with a view to enhancing staff and authorised visitors’ working conditions at the building.
