Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, met with South-East Governors in Abuja to discuss security challenges in the states.
The Senate criticised the sit-at-home movement in the South East and urged the Federal Government to work with Finland to extradite pro-Biafran agitator Simon Ekpa for prosecution.
They also decided to invite the Minister of Foreign Affairs (once appointed) and other stakeholders to investigate the matter and hold the sponsors accountable. The Senate rejected the recommendation for Nnamdi Kanu’s release, citing ongoing court proceedings.
The illegal order for a sit-at-home is reportedly enforced by a faction of IPOB in five South-East states. It was declared in 2021 to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, currently detained by the DSS for terrorism-related charges.
