Laolu Akande, the spokesperson for former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, clarified that Osinbajo couldn’t attend the APC caucus meeting due to prior international engagements.
In an apology letter to the Acting Chairman of the Party (Abubakar Kyari), the former VP explained that he was already abroad for prior commitments when he received the meeting invitation.
He had indeed cancelled some of his engagements abroad to attend the previously scheduled party caucus meetings, which were postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. ‘‘He wished the party success and expressed commitment and availability for future party activities.’‘
Osinbajo served as Nigeria’s Vice President from May 2015 to May 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. He ran in the APC presidential primary in June 2022 but was defeated by Bola Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State.
Osinbajo was a Lagos Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General when Tinubu was governor from 1999–2007. The APC primary strained their relationship, but they quickly reconciled and appeared publicly friendly.
