…as Mydrim Gallery hosts the artist’s second solo exhibition
Having held profitable exhibitions, each solo and group, in his over three years as a visible artist, Oluwafemi Otoki, a famous painter, has come of age.
Little doubt, the Ekiti State indigene and Yaba Faculty of Know-how educated painter has enthralled the artwork world and collectors, mainly together with his artistic ingenuity with many thrilling works to his credit score.
However, he usually goes out of his way to use his craft as a method of advocacy on topical points within society, particularly on the necessity for preserving the surroundings and cultural heritage throughout the nation.
This time, the painter is furthering his advocacy for preserving the surroundings with an exhibition titled ‘Landscapes of My Fatherland’.
The exhibition, which is his second solo, after his first at Signature Gallery about two years ago, runs for two weeks, from March 16-30, 2024, at Mydrim Gallery, Norman Williams Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos.
On show can be 19 works overlaying four years; however, all are crafted to assist surroundings and protect one thing for the longer term.
Talking about the rationale behind the exhibition, he stated that it’s about time anyone paperwork all the attractive landscapes within the nation before fast-paced city improvement erodes them.
“I need to doc the landscapes for future generations to see what their city was earlier than improvement and for posterity too,” he mentioned.

“We have to doc the environment as a result of extra time. We’ve seen that when improvement comes, the panorama modifications as skyscrapers or housing estates impression the environment“.

Citing an occasion with one in all his works, ‘The Pond at Shimawa’, he defined that the pond has been that method since creation.
“However, extra time and improvement will get to that space, and the pond will lose its pure attraction, and that’s why I’m documenting it now for the longer term,” he mentioned.
He was explaining whyMydrim Gallery is curating the exhibition. He said he has been involved with the Ikoyi-based Gallery for over twenty years and has had group exhibits there.
He has a salient message to convey throughout the exhibition.
“We should be severe in preserving our cultural heritage and defending the environment. We’ll profit from doing that and lose loads for neglecting that,” he warned.
