Netizens react to a viral video of Lagos State First Lady, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, linking Dr. Vwaere Diaso’s elevator accident death at General Hospital Odan to an “arrow fired into the health family”.
Diaso was in the elevator getting her food when the incident occurred. She was quickly taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead. Her colleagues protested at the hospital on Wednesday, halting activities.
The Nigerian Medical Association, Lagos State Chapter Chairman, Dr. Benjamin Olowojebutu, and Secretary, Ismail Ajibowo, instructed doctors in three government hospitals on Lagos Island to start an indefinite strike. In the viral video, Mrs. Sanwo-Olu linked the incident to a prior helicopter accident. She said, “An arrow hit the health family. August 1st is a day I’ll never forget.”
A helicopter crashed and a lift dropped on the same day, causing concern and prompting questions. However, some aggrieved Twitter users criticised the Lagos First Lady for her comments. The incident was blamed on the hospital’s poor elevator maintenance, not a metaphysical attack.
@ceemancy tweeted, “Murphy’s Law in action!” Murphy’s law shows why maintenance is crucial. Tweet re-echoed by @deesick, stating negligence, nonchalance, and carelessness. @DieuEmeka blamed Dr. Diaso’s death on government failure. He tweeted, “The how is simple, nah. The government, led by her husband, failed to maintain the lift.” No arrow, just corruption and irresponsibility by the government.
The Lagos State Government establishes an inquiry panel and promises sanctions for culpable individuals.
