The Federal High Court in Abuja dismisses a N20 billion suit against the Enugu State Governor over certificate forgery filled by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
Justice Ekwo ruled that Section 20 of the NYSC Act does not apply to Mbah, as he is not a current NYSC member or employee. NYSC counsel argued that Mbah contravened the Act by initiating the suit, but the court urged a strikeout. Mbah did not appeal to the President, as required by Section 20 of the NYSC Act.
Mbah’s counsel argued that the NYSC Act’s sections were not applicable in the current suit and that a counter affidavit and written address had been filed. Mbah argued that Section 20 of the NYSC Act did not apply to him.
The NYSC issued a disclaimer on February 1, 2023, in response to a request for information on Mbah’s NYSC status pursuant to Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2011. Mbah claimed he received a certificate of National Service No. A.808297 dated January 6, 2003, upon completion of the NYSC service.
The Department of State Security (DSS) has debunked claims by the New York State Security Commission (NYSC) that Mbah forged his discharge certificate at the Enugu State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The DSS stated that the agency initiated an investigation after Mbah’s petition in February 2023. The DSS found that certificates in a series, including Mbah’s, were issued to Corps members in Lagos, contradicting the NYSC’s claim.
