The apex court has invalidated the money laundering charge against Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who represented Delta North Senatorial District.
The Court of Appeal sentenced him to prison on a two-count charge brought against him. The Supreme Court nullified the appellate court’s decision, upholding the Federal High Court’s initial verdict. The apex court upheld the Federal High Court’s decision, stating that the appellants were unjustly and maliciously prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly committing offences unknown to the law.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused Senator Peter Nwaoboshi and his companies of illegally acquiring Guinea House in Apapa, Lagos, for N805 million. The prosecution claimed part of the funds were proceeds of crime. Senator Peter Nwaoboshi appealed to the Supreme Court, obtaining a favourable judgement.
Senator Peter Nwaoboshi is a prominent Nigerian politician representing the Delta North Senatorial District. A member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he has played an active role in Nigerian politics for several years. With a wealth of experience in government and legislative affairs, Senator Nwaoboshi has contributed to policymaking.
