President Bola Tinubu has accredited the appointment of DIG Johnson Kokumo (retd.) as the brand new Coordinator of the Nationwide Centre for the Management of Small Arms and Gentle Weapons underneath the Workplace of the Nationwide Safety Adviser.
Kokumo succeeds Main-Normal AM Dikko (retd.), whom former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed because the pioneer Coordinator on Could 3, 2021.
The Presidency introduced his appointment Tuesday in an announcement signed by Tinubu’s Particular Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new coordinator for the Nationwide Centre for the Management of Small Arms and Gentle Weapons.’
Ngelale described Kokumo as a “seasoned and achieved legislation enforcement skilled with over 30 years of expertise in crime prevention, administration, evaluation, and management.”
He was Deputy Inspector-Normal of Police, Power Felony Intelligence and Investigations Division, Power Headquarters, Abuja, from 2022 to 2023.
The President says he expects the brand new Coordinator to “deploy his immense expertise and experience in efforts to revamp the Centre and evolve new methods to deliver lasting options to the menace of arms proliferation which is a major driver of insecurity within the nation.”
The Nationwide Centre for the Management of Small Arms and Gentle Weapons was established on Could 3, 2021, by an Government directive by Buhari.
This was in keeping with Article 24 of the ECOWAS Conference on Small Arms and Gentle Weapons.
On the time, the Presidency mentioned the Centre would substitute the defunct Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Gentle Weapons and shall function the institutional mechanism for coverage steering, analysis and monitoring of all facets of Small Arms and Gentle Weapons.
NCCSALW’s creation was a part of the restructuring of Nigeria’s safety structure to handle rising threats and strengthen regional mechanisms for the management, prevention and regulation of SALW.
