In response to allegations of malfeasance in the management of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) and its administered programs, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the suspension of all programs under the agency. The suspension, disclosed in a statement by Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information at the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, is intended to allow for a thorough investigation into the alleged wrongdoings.
The statement outlined the suspension of all four programs administered by NSIPA, including the N-Power Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme, and Home Grown School Feeding Programme. The initial suspension period is set at six weeks. President Tinubu expressed concerns about operational lapses and improprieties related to payments to the programs’ beneficiaries.
President Tinubu has taken additional steps by constituting a ministerial panel tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of NSIPA’s operations. The panel is expected to recommend necessary reforms to improve the agency’s functioning.
Throughout the suspension period, all NSIPA-related activities, such as distributions, events, payments, collaborations, and registrations, will be frozen. President Tinubu emphasized his commitment to a swift and unbiased process, assuring stakeholders and Nigerians that the administration remains dedicated to ensuring that social intervention programs benefit the most vulnerable citizens as intended. The measures taken underscore the government’s determination to address any issues affecting the efficiency and integrity of the National Social Investment Programme.
