President Bola Tinubu is actively shopping for his replacement after Senator Adamu resigned as APC National Chairman.
Tinubu soft-pedalled after being sworn in, but some party chiefs urged him to remove Adamu immediately. The bank accounts of the ruling party were frozen on orders of the “Presidency,” affecting the payment of advertisement debts to media houses.
Party sources claim the president has a replacement for Adamu, but is consulting stakeholders to make his choice acceptable. Some speculate about James Faleke, Tanko Almakura, and Silas Agara, but the president is keeping details to himself and his inner circle. Almakura and Simon Lalong are also being tipped for the position.

Senator Abubakar Kyari, acting National Chairman of the APC, confirmed that the party’s constitution includes provisions for filling all vacancies, including Adamu’s vacant seat, and that procedures will be initiated soon. Senator Abubakar Kyari has confirmed the resignation of National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu and National Secretary Iyiola Omisore.
The National Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings have been postponed, with Kyari as the Deputy National Chairman and Festus Fuanter as the acting National Secretary. The National Caucus meeting on July 18th and the National Executive Committee meeting on July 19th has been postponed, with a new date to be communicated shortly.
Adamu was foisted on the APC in March 2022 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. He was accused of running the party as a garrison with him as the Commanding Officer. Adamu accused Tinubu of not having respect for the president’s office and threatened punishment if necessary. He sought to foist former Senate President Ahmad Lawan on the NWC as Buhari’s presidential candidate but was resisted by some party stakeholders. Adamu also subtly criticized Tinubu’s choice of Senators Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abbas as Senate and House Speakers and disclaimed the party’s choice of principal officers for both Senate and House.
