Obingwa Labour Party Stakeholders Forum (OLPSHF) has listed economic, social, and political issues that Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, must solve in order for the democratic dividend to reach people at the grassroots level.
The group said in a communique issued by its Chairman, Dr. Eric Egwuibe, at the end of a three-day retreat from August 25 to 27, at the Golden Olives Hotel in Umuahia, that the retreat with the theme ‘Rebranding Obingwa for Better Politics’ was aimed at helping the governor identify and address low hanging opportunities that will change the political, social, and economic narratives of the state while delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
According to him, the Obingwa Labour Party Stakeholders Forum (OLPSHF) aims to demonstrate that Obingwa has honest people in politics who despise prebendary politics of corrupt enrichment while exemplifying ethical politics of facilitating measurable societal progress in terms of security, economic growth, social harmony, and infrastructure development for all.
Egwuibe noted that the forum will deliver working materials on security, economic, and infrastructure development to the governor in the coming weeks, based on recommendations from the retreat.
“We believe that the same working documents will be a great asset to the future Obingwa Council chairman as well.” “The OLPSHF remains a professional, articulate, solution-oriented, and credible partner in progress for accountability, positive impacts, effective representations, and people-oriented governance to all arms of government in Abia State,” he stated.
The retreat forum discussed how to improve the lives of citizens in Obingwa and Abia State, as well as how to create a good security architecture for the safety of lives and property.
It also identified economic opportunities in Obingwa local government that may be capitalised on to reduce poverty, provide meaningful jobs, and bring wealth to the people.
Stakeholders at the forum also sought answers to infrastructural difficulties in order to alleviate suffering and enhance living conditions.
They also talked on how to change the current political mindsets of self-enrichment, looting, and violence to one of selfless service and people-oriented governance that benefits citizens in Obingwa and Abia State.
Other leaders attending the retreat include: Labour Party Obingwa West (Uhie) Constituency candidate Victoria Onwubiko; Labour Party Obingwa East (Agalaba) Constituency candidate Peter Azubike; Chairman, Obingwa Labour Party Elders Council, Dr. C.C. Okwuonu; Secretary, Obingwa Labour Party Elders Council, Engr. Iheanyi. Y. Weze; Secretary, Obingwa Labour Party Stakeholders Forum
