The Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Adeniran Tella, stated on Friday, that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, can’t be launched to the Oyo State Unbiased Electoral Fee, OYSIEC, for the conduct of the native authorities elections scheduled for April 27.
Tella acknowledged this in Ibadan whereas talking to NAN on the sidelines of the quarterly consultative assembly with civil society organisations within the state.
He stated BVAS contained delicate information on voters, including that it was the choice of the Unbiased Nationwide Electoral Fee, INEC, that BVAS shouldn’t be launched for native authorities elections.
“What OYSIEC wants for the election is the voter register and this has been given to them. The voter register will enable the state electoral physique to know the variety of registered voters and people who are eligible to solid their votes through the elections.
“However BVAS is supposed for the overall elections and they’re delicate units that we can’t afford to toy with,” he stated.
Tella, whereas addressing representatives of over 25 civil society organisations on the session assembly, reassured that INEC would proceed to companion with them to allow them to play important roles in making certain free, truthful, clear, inclusive and credible elections.
