Zenith Bank Plc has appointed Dr. Adaora Umeoji as its new Group Managing Director, effective June 1, 2024.
This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Firm Secretary, Michael Otu, which was filed with the Nigerian Change Restricted on Tuesday.
Umeoji will succeed Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, the current GMD, who will retire on May 31.
“Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji is the first feminine GMDCEO since the financial institution’s inception. Her appointment is constant with the financial institution’s govt transition custom, succession plan, and technique of grooming leaders from inside,” a part of the assertion learn.
Earlier than this appointment, Umeoji was the Deputy Managing Director of the financial institution since October 28, 2016, and has up to 30 years of banking expertise, of which 26 years have been with Zenith Financial institution.

Based on her profile, Umeoji is an alumnus of Harvard Business School, where she attended the Superior Administration Programme and Columbia Business School with Certificates within the World Banking Program. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the College of Jos, a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and a first-class honours degree in legislation from Baze College, Abuja.
She holds a Grasp in Legal guidelines from the College of Salford, United Kingdom, a Grasp in Enterprise Administration from the College of Calabar, and a doctorate in enterprise administration from Apollos College, USA. She holds a Certificate in Economics for Enterprise from the celebrated MIT Sloan Faculty of Administration, USA. She has attended numerous administration programmes in famed Universities around the globe, together with the strategic considering and Administration programme at Wharton Enterprise Faculty, USA.
With this appointment, Umeoji will join the ranks of female financial institution MDs in Nigeria and become the primary female MD of the financial institution.
Zenith Financial Institution is among Nigeria’s giant asset banks and belongs to the elite membership of banks with a market worth of over N1tn.
On Tuesday, at the close of buying and selling, Zenith Financial Institution was priced at N 1.19tn, and its shares were priced at N38.1 per unit.
